Fellow competitors gave Carl Ragland a lot of ribbing as he sweated in the Florida sun cleaning and polishing his Viper Red '06 Peterbilt 379, which he drove for Taylor Transport. But his dedication to perfection won his rig Best of Show Working Bobtail. More than two dozen customized bobtails and combos from as far away as Wisconsin and New York competed in Pride & Polish truck beauty show at the 75 Chrome Shop in Wild-wood, Fla., April 20. Most notable was the strong showing of combos. Two of the most impres-sive were Todd and Beth Roccapriore's 1993 Peterbilt dump combo, Chopped '93, from Clean Slate Environmental of Hebron, Conn., and the dump combo of Lindamood Demolition, of Irving, Texas. Taylor Transport in Carterville, Ga., also took home more than its share of hardware. The Taylor gang rolled in two bobtails and a combo, and left with Best of Show Working Bobtail; Best Limited Mileage Bobtail; tied for Second in Working Combo 2001-Newer; Second in Interior, Cab Only; Second in Mobil Delvac Working Engine Class; Second and Third in Bobtail Lights; Third in Combo Lights; and Pride & Polish Best Limited Mileage Interior. Paul Stanchio's 2009 Pete 388 and 2009 Cottrell Car Carrier, Hot Wheels, won the Best Limited Mileage Combo award just as it did in Louisville, Ky., in March. The hot orange-flamed street-rod-like paint makes this car hauler a standout. Meanwhile, Roadworks Best Use of Chrome went to Raymond Brown of Central Florida Xpress for his Cracker Coalition, a 2008 Kenworth W900L pull-ing a 1997 Utility reefer. Chris and Denise Jones won the Rising Star Award for their super-sleeper 2007 Kenworth W900L, and Wayne Hollingsworth and son Wayne Jr. captured Bobtail Lights with their unique twin-sleeper 1995 Pete 379. No one was surprised to see Paul Stan-chio's Pete 388 car hauler, Hot Wheels, roll out the Best Limited Mileage Combo honor. It's won similar awards at 's other Pride & Polish beauty shows. R.J. Martin was one of three Taylor Transport trucks entered. The trip from Carterville, Ga., was worth it as Martin's Margaritaville took Best Limited Mileage Bobtail and Pride & Polish Best Limited Mileage Interior honors.
