www.modernwoodworking.com 58 JULY 2009 Finishing equipment and finishes Green finishing has developed Biocoat and Biolack for use with all types of untreated hardwood, both on interior and exterior sur-faces. These treatments are ideal for coating wooden surfaces intended for use in roofs, floors and structural elements in gen-eral. The objective in designing these coatings was to provide the construction sector with entirely natural products that are able to protect wood in a way that is at once safe and effective. Biocoat is an impregnating agent with high penetrative capacity that helps to maintain the optimum humidity level of the wood, slowing down the natural aging process and also preventing the risk of changes to the tonality. Water-resistant and permeable to steam, this prod-uct can be applied using a brush, pad or spray gun. It is available in various shades, including wooden tones such as oak, elm, dark walnut and cherry, as well as white and colorless. It also premiers its range of waterborne gun cleaners, important to those shops spraying waterborne coatings. Circle on the Reader Service Card or visit ModernWoodworking.com/info. Robotic spraying plant Available from the Bravorobot robotic spray-ing plant adapts and optimizes a pre-programmed spraying cycle to the size and shape of the workpieces as they are scanned at the machine infeed. This operation simulates the manual spray-ing process while ensuring a constant output and high quality finish. The robotic spraying arm moves on high precision linear guides and it is driven by brushless motors, achieving smooth, quick and precise movements. The spraying arm works on 5 axes and carries four guns for faces and one gun for edges, with soft-ware-controlled positioning. Optionally, the system can integrate an automatic quick color change system, which minimizes the change-over time from one lacquer material (or color) to the next.
