Post Witt finds success with time
For some, it’s a dream come true to be chosen as Contractor of the Year by your carrier. That dream came true earlier this year for Post Witt, an independent owner operator from Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was honored as Dart’s 2009 Contractor of the Year at the company’s Dallas (Texas) operating center. Witt started in trucking 13 years ago and contracted with Dart four years later. He has driven over 1.5 million accidentfree miles in his career. “I was working in law enforcement and saw trucking as an easier way to earn a living,” he says, remembering the switch that launched his truck driving career. Operating with a Dart National contract, Post travels the country and generally stays out on the road for one to two weeks before heading home. “I set financial goals for myself each month,” he says, “and when I meet them, I’m ready to go home for time with the family.” That self discipline has a lot to do with his business success, providing a yardstick for him to keep business needs in line with his financial needs at home. “It’s a business,” he states, and treating it that way is the best way to take care of his family. How does his family feel about it? “Tina is ok with me being on the road,” he explains, “although she would prefer that I be home more.” Sons Taylor and Forest both travel with him when they can. “They’re coming up on driving age,
