Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Seeks Drivers for Traveling Wall Replica The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has launched a nationwide search for a driving team to trans-port its half-scale replica of The Wall, called The Wall That Heals, around the United States. The replica's travel season usu-ally lasts about 10 months out of the year and includes 20-25 stops. The exhibit is transported by a 53-foot, fifth-wheel trailer that converts into a museum chronicling the Vietnam War era and the unique healing power of The Wall. Candidates must have a com-mercial driver's license and be able to transport the replica, supervise set up and tear down, and conduct media interviews as needed. There are two positions available, and established driving teams or cou-ples are preferred. For more information, contact Dan Schenk, (202) 393-0090, ext. 118, or dschenk@vvmf.org. Cummins Cutting 400 Jobs at Truck Engine Plant Cummins Inc. plans to tempo-rarily cut about 400 jobs at a plant in western New York state starting in January because of expected lower demand for the heavy-duty engines produced there, Bloom-berg reported. A substantial number of the reductions at the Jamestown Engine Plant will be voluntary temporary leaves, in which workers will retain health-care benefits, Mark Land, a company spokesman, said, Bloom-berg reported. The plant is currently building about 500 heavy-duty engines a day, which is close to maximum capacity, Land said, but that is expected to drop off significantly through the first quarter of 2010. The surge in orders for current model engines is likely a move by truck buyers to avoid more expen-sive engines with new emission-controlling technology that will be required after Dec. 31. The plant employs about 1,300 workers, with about 1,100 of those in production. Improvement in demand for the plant's products is expected to be gradual and it may be four to six months before the com-pany brings the workers back, Land said, Bloomberg reported.
