SESSION I: Current Issues in Safety F riday morning's meeting opens with an expert panel discussion moderated by Commercial Carrier Journal editorial director Avery Vise. Officials from several regulatory agencies are scheduled to appear including representatives from Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Alabama Department of Public Safety. The discussion will focus on recent developments in state and federal safety initiatives, including Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010, Targeting Aggressive Cars and Trucks (TACT) Program, and the Alabama Steel Coil Bill, recently signed into law by Gov. Bob Riley. SESSION II: Keynote Address with John Kasich F ollowing the panel discussion, former congressman and FOX News Channel pundit John Kasich will be the featured speaker. Kasich is a former nine-term U.S. Representative from Ohio who is now a television commentator for FOX News. He hosted Heartland with John Kasich and also guest hosts The O'Reilly Factor, filling in for Bill O'Reilly when necessary. Newsweek magazine recently named him one of its 100 people for the 21st century. Meanwhile, The Washington Post says it's hard to argue with much of what John has to say. Even U2 front man Bono says Kasich is someone you want to have on your side. Why all the praise? John Kasich believes in the power of the individual to raise standards and leave a better America for the next generation. He knows that more government isn't the answer to what ails America, and he believes in the power of individual actions to bring about historic change in our country. Known for his straightforward style and boundless energy, Kasich is committed to limited government. He fought for these ideals as a congressman, and now as a busi-ness leader, media personality, author and speaker. He is the author of several books, including Courage is Contagious, and Stand for Something.
