Statehood
President Benjamin Harrison went to great lengths to obscure the order in which the statehood proclamations of North and South Dakota were signed on Nov. 2, 1889, so the exact order in which the two states entered the union is unknown. However, because of alphabetical position, ND is often considered the 39th state.

Commonly known as the "Skyscraper on the Prairie," the present-day ND capitol building was constructed in 1934 after a fire destroyed the original building. The capitol stands a towering 19 stories with its Modern style architecture and Art Deco interior. Agriculture is North Dakota's top industry, and each year our farmers produce enough: · Wheat for 15.5 billion loaves of bread · Potatoes for 171 million servings of French fries · Beef for 100 million hamburgers Sound impressive? There's more. ND leads the nation in production of flaxseed, canola, pinto beans, dry edible peas, durum wheat, navy beans, spring wheat, sunflowers, all dry edible beans, barley, lentils and honey. Plus, we produce enough soybeans to make 212 billion crayons!

Geography Fun Facts
· The geographical center of North America is marked in Rugby. · Explorers William Clark and Meriwether Lewis, along with the Corps of Discovery, spent more time in what is now ND than any other place on their journey. · The International Peace Garden is located on the U.S. and Canadian borders of ND and Manitoba and is a symbol of peace and friendship.
Fun Facts
· ND is the friendliest state in the U.S., according to a Cambridge University study. · AAA deemed a ND vacation the most affordable in the U.S. · Sacred, albino bison White Cloud and white calves can be seen at the National Buffalo Museum Preserve in Jamestown. · The Dakota Dinosaur Museum in Dickinson holds the world's largest intact triceratops skull. It weighs 1,500 pounds. · A rare mummified dinosaur was discovered in western ND a portion of which can be seen at the ND Heritage Center in Bismarck. · Pembina was the first established white settlement. Most immigrants were French fur traders who migrated from Canada.
