Digital file specifications: We encourage submission of ma-terial in electronic form for all ads. To make our schedule commit-ments, assure error-free output and minimize any extra charges, we need to know exactly what we will be receiving for processing. Any files supplied incomplete or in an unusable format will cause production slowdowns and extra charges. We prefer Application files: high-resolution, print-ready PDF files with embedded fonts, but we also accept application files cre-ated using Quark Xpress, Adobe Illustrator, Indesign and Adobe Photoshop. All application files must be supplied with all graphic elements and fonts. If supplying an EPS file, please make sure that the fonts are converted to outline. Please note that we cannot accept the following: Pow-erpoint, MS Publisher, Excel, Word, CorelDraw, Freehand and Painter. Document Document size: sizes in the page layout file should be created to the trim size (not spread size) of the publica-tion. Bleed image areas should extend at least 1/4 inch beyond the trim of the page within the ap-plication. Keep important text and graphics within the live area (1/2 inch inside the trim size/docu-ment size on all four sides). Do not build into the page anything beyond the trim except bleed. Graphic files are to Graphics: be between 200 and 300 ppi, not 72. Each graphic and/or image should have a specific and unique file name; DO NOT duplicate file names. When naming files, DO NOT use special characters ( ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + ` / ? ; { } : < > , ). All graphics should be sup-plied in HIGH resolution TIFF, JPEG or EPS format. Images are to be in CMYK, Grayscale or Bitmap format only. GIF, WMF, BMP and PICT files ARE NOT ACCEPTED and should not be used. LZW and JPEG compression should not be used on TIFF and EPS files respectively. Linked files and fonts: Include all linked graphic and text files and any custom kern files within your application files. Remove all unused pasteboard items. We encourage receiving a copy of your fonts to ensure compatibility. Avoid the use of TruType fonts; use Type 1 fonts whenever possible. EPS files from Illustrator programs should have the fonts converted to outline. Files may be supplied Media: on 100mb or 250mb zip disc, CD-ROM or DVD. We also have FTP capabilities. Contact your traffic manager for FTP information. Floppy disks and CDs will be returned only upon request. Zip disks will be returned if a return address is provided. Hard copy and color proofs: All digital material, whether supplied on disk or sent via telecommunications, must be accompanied by: A color-accurate proof of 100% of the file, including color breaks. Provide a hard-copy list of the files supplied. Provide an instruc-tion sheet with customer name, publication/event name, file names and page numbers. Notify our traffic department of any re-vised files. If this is not supplied, we cannot be responsible for content. If the file is not accom-panied by an industry-standard color proof, and the client does not specify that we produce one, color match will be approximate on press. 7 Final trim size: 7 / 8 x 10 1 / 2 inches 1/8-inch Trim allowance: head, foot and face and 1/8-inch grind off. Minimum 1/4 inch Bleeds: beyond final trim. On all bleed ads, live matter (including headlines, copy, addresses, etc.) should adhere to nonbleed dimensions. Keep live matter 7/16 inch from all trim sides and 1/4 inch from the gutter. Trim marks must be indicated on advertising material and proofs to ensure proper trimming. Disposal of material: Production material is available immediately after printing for up to one year. All material is destroyed, without notice, 12 months after last use. Advertisers will be rebated if, within a 12-month period from the date of first inser-tion, they have used sufficient addional space to warrant a lower rate than that at which they have been billed.
